I am Don.

I know a little about a lot of things but have mastered nothing.

I’m not ashamed of that. I’ve wanted to learn so many different things, but I get into something and then, like a three year old distracted by a bouncing ball, I quickly find another thing that demands my attention.

I can do many things half-assed.  I can homebrew beer, cook, be your lawyer, put in a new ceiling fan…on and on, but NONE of it comes guaranteed.

This is not a blog about anything in particular.

I’m not promoting a cause.

I don’t have a disease.

I don’t think my kids are the best thing since sliced bread (though they have given me much to blog about, thank you!).

I simply don’t have a specific topic that fascinates me to the point of wanting to talk about it with the world.

I’m just a regular guy with many (mostly asinine) thoughts and opinions which I’m fixin to share with the internet.

About what you say?

I have a family.  I am a serviceable husband and father, but would never win any awards for doing either.  My wife is pretty awesome.   We have three kids.  Ace is 9, Cool is 4 and G$ is 22 months.  They are exhausting, but they’re fun and we wouldn’t change anything about any of them, for the most part.  I’ll write about them, sometimes.

I work around and with a lot of interesting and stupid people.  I’ll write about them too.

I mostly talk out my ass and that’s what I plan to do here.  Nothing that I write will blow your mind, I ‘m sure.

I curse a lot, often unintentionally or without even realizing it.  Even when I type!  I’m trying to get better with that though and I won’t do it just for the sake of cursing, if that makes any fucking sense.

If I offend you, then let me apologize right here.  I’m just trying to blow steam and have fun.  I’m not wanting to make enemies online, that’s for sure.

I may talk about crap that I like to do or would like to do.  I may write real time play by play during a night of drinking beer on my couch alone or I may post a recipe that I think you should try.  I may write four paragraphs about a time I followed a fat woman around Sam’s Club watching her and her fat kids eat samples.  Fat people are fascinating!

Who knows?  If it’s something that strikes me as funny, I’ll talk about it.

I like to think that I’m a pretty diverse guy!  Whatever the topic is, it’s bound to be fun, for me at least!

  1. 😀 I liked the way you put things out straight and frank. I think I’ll like dropping by to catch up on your world.

And you are a cop?!? That is so damn cool!!! Respect you if you are a good one! Cops are pretty awesome considering the honourable work that they do. 🙂

    See you around! 🙂

Love what you’re doing and thank you for protecting us! Just in case you’re looking for additional inspiration, the F bomb is my personal fav 😂. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Don, I am an English Language Arts teacher with over 30 years of experience, and I can tell you that you have mastered something–WRITING! Your writing is eloquent. Keep writing. You have a way with words!

    • Thank you for your years of service as a teacher. I love me some teachers. You flatter me with your compliment about my writing. I don’t know. I think the stories really tell them selves, especially the tragic ones. I often wonder if I’m any good at this, so I appreciate it when somebody like you says I’m okay. It’s appreciated for sure.

You deserve the compliment! Believe me, you are a great writer You should put these posts in a book. Don’t know how many books are out there from a police officer’s perspective, but if I were you, I would check into it. Also, I Just found out that you are a buddy of my nephew, Chris. Small world! Maybe we’ll get to meet some day.

Don, I forgot to mention that the first story I read of yours was about the little boy that was shot in St. Louis today, March 12, 2015. Such a sad story. Your account of it was very moving; it moved me to tears.

Can you please tell me the officer’s name who tried to save my baby cousin’s life?

I just discovered this blog this morning and have spent at least an hour going between LOLs and tears. You are one of the good guys, and lately, there are not enough of you in the spotlight. Keep shining, Don!

I have been asking with no avail. Has the person responsible for Marcus Johnson’s death ever been arrested or at least is it known who it is?

  11. Reading your About page from bottom to top was really a fun thing to do 😀

I just found your blog through the WordPress Year in Review and have definitely become a follower. I don’t know how y’all see such things as what happened to that little boy every day and not shut down your feelings. Maybe that’s what’s wrong with some police officers – they’ve forgotten they are humans, too, and their job is to serve and protect.

On another note, what do you find so “fascinating” about fat people? The kids learn from the parent(s), but maybe the parent can’t help themselves. Trust me, when you use food to smother your feelings, or because eating is the one thing your abuser can’t control, it is very easy to become overweight or clinically/morbidly obese. For those, it’s not just a matter of going on a diet. Although I am overweight I sometimes have to stop myself from judging those who are much larger than me because I don’t know what their story is.

Be safe and come home to your family after every tour. My father is a retired Officer so I know what it feels like to be a member of a Police family. Thanks for all that you do. Have a great day.

Praying for you, and your brothers in Blue, and Green. Some of us DO appreciate you.

I have met an awful lot of people since I started blogging, but never met anyone who actually thinks, feels and speaks the way I do! So refreshing to meet you, Don!

Without “wanting to make enemies on the internet” either, can you expand on “fast people are fascinating”?
